Peredur walked up to a merchant's door. Sir, have you need for a soldier to guard your merchandise? The merchant scanned Peredur's ripped clothing and greasy hair. "I'm sorry, lad, I already hired someone. Maybe next year." The door shut in Peredur's face. Too many people were turning a blind eye to him and his little brothers. It was getting harder for Peredur to feed them as well as himself, yet Peredur never gave up. He turned and sat down on the steps of a fountain. Peredur pulled on his shining armor and helm. All the pieces were solid bronze with silver lining the chinks. Red gold was on the back of the torso. If I have to, I will sell you. Peredur said to his armor.

"Ya leave before ya even come in" The man yelled angrily. He was the bartender at a cheaper tavern filled mostly with low-lifes, and he had every reason to do so. "What, I didn't do anything." The girl protested. "Yep, and I want it to stay that way. I heard enough 'bout ya, ya bring chaos in yer wake." "Me?" She asked incredulously. She looked at the man with pleading puppy eyes, head tilted, but to no avail. As a final attempt she tried to simply walk in, but the man put his hand on her head and turned her around. "That way." Seeing the girl gave up trying, he walked inside to return to his business.
The girl sighed and walked away, kicking a pebble backwards with her heel. She held back a grin as shouting and other noises started coming from the tavern, with some words still understandable, hinting about someone doing something with someone else's drink, something like dropping something into it or the like.
"Shiny." A voice, most likely belonging to a child, said behind the armored man sitting at a fountain. "Are you The Landstrider from the tale?"

Peredur glanced up at some little child. I don't really belong in a tale. I am not the Landstrider, just a warrior who wanders. I may be the Landstrider of this time, but not of that time. Do you like the armor? It's about all I have left. I even have a couple of brothers who need me. Peredur noticed a young woman walking around. It appeared as if she had been sent away from the tavern. This was a woman who could fight, almost guaranteed. He kept his eyes on her as she walked slowly forward.

"With that armour you could have been. But you know it at least, don't you? When a band of vile rogues wanted to take over a trading town, and the Landstrider fought them off sngle-handedly in front of the town hall. And when the mayor wanted to thank him, he had already disappeared to his pursuit of justice." Merel summarised the story.
"It must be so fun to be a warrior..." She said, excited. "This city keeps me bored. They shoo me off anythin that's fun..." Her voice trailed off.

Peredur smiled grimly at the sound of her excitement. Don't think fighting is fun. Many people die every day. In fact, my father was killed while fighting. I will teach you to fight if you want. If you can supply your own weapons, that is. Until then, I can tutor you in the art of hand-to-hand combat. Peredur rose up and slid his sword out of its sheathe enough to show it.
