Peredur saw the steps that led up to the summit. They looked rather normal, except that they could possibly hold many different traps and pitfalls. There was no chance for survival if they did hold these traps so he decided to start up the sloped mountain by going through the forest and brush. Peredur drew his sword and started up the slope with no thought toward going slowly. At the first shelf of rock, he started to hear the wolves howling. The light from the setting sun cast longer shadows around the shelf. Peredur slid up the slightly rocky trees. This was a safer route. The human began to run lightly across the thick branches that led up toward the summit. All of a sudden the trees disappeared and the snow began to grow deep. Peredur jumped off the branches and fell into the snow. He climbed out and looked around.
Peredur noticed a trail of archaic symbols that glowed. Deciding to follow it, he ran along the trail and slipped into a hole. At the bottom was a sort of cellar that held little but shadows. The human walked over to the far wall and found a decaying stairwell. He climbed carefully up the stairs. When he reached the top, the young man saw an altar that held many little candles. The room seemed like a room for worship. Peredur continued along the walls until he found another doorway.
Peredur slipped through the doorway and found a long hallway. The space began to grow, as if it was meant to accommodate for a larger being. The hall ended at a large spiral staircase. Peredur started up the staircase and realized that there was an obelisk with four dragons carved into it. They were the four major dragon races. When he arrived at the top, there was light and a large statue of a dragon stood in the middle. Stone pillars lined the walls and there were large torches on the walls. Every single one of the torches were unlit, yet there was light from yet another entrance. This entrance was the one that lead out to the summit. Peredur had made it to the Temple of the Dragons. The human dropped to his knees in a respectful manner. There was an air of spiritual power and a dignity that only the greatest of races could hold.
I beseech of thee, all dragon spirits, creators of this Temple, lords of the natural environment, will you allow one as insignificant as I to have one of your most valuable possessions. May I be allowed to have a dragon egg, to be allowed to call myself a pawn in the game created by the dragons, the game created to keep the world alive.
