Waiting. (HATCHING)

[-Pan-]

Pan was hunched over the kitchen table, staring intently at the ovular orb resting in the middle of a pile of dirt and leaves and twigs. It was supposed to be a makeshift nest for the egg, thrown together by her mother, and she hadn’t complained. At least it kept it from rolling all over the table. The shifter had been watching the object intently almost all day, since she had returned from Myrkan. The girl had entered her home and set the egg in its place, picked up something to eat and sat at the table, when she noticed that the egg was rocking ever so slightly. It was barely noticeable, but it was enough for little knocking sounds to be made as it banged lightly against the wood of the table. As the girl touched it, she also noticed that instead of its previous slightly cool temperature, it was now heated up so much that it almost burnt her dainty fingers at the touch. In response, she yelped a little bit, which had sent her mom flying in to the room in worry. The elven woman was so overbearing sometimes, but Pan didn’t mind much. She found it comforting most of the time.

And now, her mother was cooking a late dinner, and even though Pan had eaten barely anything all day, and it smelled delicious, she wouldn’t be able to eat a bite until this egg did whatever it was doing. The rocking came and went, and right now it was stationary, but was even warmer than earlier and grew steadily more so. The shifter refused to pull her eyes away from it for even a second, and wouldn’t even have blinked if it wasn’t an involuntary action. It was getting rather late, no, and the shifter desperately hoped it would hatch before she nodded off where she was sitting. Because that was fast approaching, even with her mother’s constant pleas for her to eat something. But more than that, she hoped that she would be compatible with the dragon which would (hopefully) soon arrive. The spirits probably wouldn’t give her a dragon she couldn’t get along with, but with her timid nature Pan still was unsure how well she would handle the beast. Maybe, if nothing else, she would just have to adopt a new nature and get over herself. That seemed pretty likely.

[THE SPIRITS]

The egg resumes its rocking with gusto, quickly rocking itself out of the makeshift nest and rolling across the table. It tumbles over the edge, but before it can hit the ground, it bursts open and the creature inside lands on the floor with a thump. It shakes itself out, disgruntled and a little grumpy, and looks around at its new home. As soon as it sees Pan, it leaps up in to her lap and begins rubbing its face against her like a cat, with a tiny rumbling that sounds like a purr.

As a baby, Pan’s dragon will display all characteristic signs of a young child. He will be incredibly curious, and will try to eat everything he can fit in his mouth, and if it doesn’t turn out so well, it’ll still take a couple tries before he learns to stay away from that. It will most likely be a common thing for him to wander off and not return to his rider unless something scares him, or he’s hungry. He will also be somewhat of a trickster at times, and take advantage of Pan’s timid nature to scare her for his own amusement, though will grow out of this once he reaches adulthood. He’ll constantly be going, with energy that never seems to stop. Despite being rather troublesome, though, he will see Pan as a mother in his early years and will be attached to her very much. Once he grows up, he’ll still look at her as a caring figure, and will treat her with respect and give her authority, behavior that will be shown exclusively to his rider. To others, he will be rude and immature, as he will never lose the playfulness of his youth, and will always be eager for some new adventure or exploration, so eager that he will barely wait for Pan to climb on his back before taking off.
